The Weird Sisters are three prophetesses best remembered for telling then-General Macbeth that he would one day be King of Scotland and that that wouldn’t be such a great thing. They also coined the phrases, “Double, double toil and trouble” and “Something wicked this way comes.” Although written about and made famous by William Shakespeare there are references to them in earlier literature, including Holinshed’s Chronicles (1857) and as the Norn in various pre-Scandinavian oral histories.
